Definition of term
A crawlspace is a small, unfinished area beneath a home. Crawlspaces are a type of foundation (in addition to slab and basements foundations). While each has pros and cons, crawlspace foundations are popular since they provide easy access to plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems. In warm, humid climates, crawlspaces may be encapsulated to help regulate the temperature difference between the temperature in the crawl space and the ambient temperature. Crawlspaces must remain dry, so they do not become a place for mold growth or termites.
