Homeowners Association Dues

Definition of term

Homeowners association (HOA) dues are monthly or annual fees homeowners in a planned community or subdivision pay to the HOA. The HOA uses these funds to maintain common areas like swimming pools, tennis courts, and parks. While the amount of HOA dues vary from one community to another, they typically range from $25 to $500 per month. Some HOAs also charge special assessments if the monthly HOA dues are insufficient to cover large projects. For example, in townhome communities, a special assessment may go towards replacing the roofs of all units. An HOA can also issue fines when homeowners violate the rules or fail to pay their dues on time.
