Definition of term
A builder will typically partner with a lighting design center and allocate a budget for light fixtures per home. The buyer will go to the design center and choose the light fixtures they like. If buyers select lighting fixtures that cost more than the lighting credit, they will have to pay the difference out of their pocket. It's a way for builders to allow homebuyers to pick out their own light fixtures that meet their tastes instead of the homebuilder choosing light fixtures on the buyer's behalf.
